About TAC Teaching and Innovation Farm 

TAC Teaching and Innovation Farm’s mission is to build a sustainable food and farming ecosystem at Allensworth. This includes supporting people, land, and animals in Allensworth and Tulare County. TAC Teaching and Innovation Farm aspires to be an economic engine for Allensworth. The farm is dedicated to encouraging and supporting aspiring farmers in the region to start their own farms or farm careers. 

Farm Manager Job Position

The Farm Manager position is a unique opportunity to contribute to the healing and revitalization of the Allensworth community. The farm manager will have a mixture of responsibilities from community engagement to farm-related duties. The position requires robust and pragmatic knowledge of vegetables, fruit, and livestock. The farm manager will create a vision, inspire stakeholders, and execute a diverse plan. A successful candidate is a servant leader who develops others and brings together opposing views to meet goals. The incumbent will create the metrics and coordination needed to support a robust and sustainable agricultural ecosystem. 

The Farm Manager will be employed full-time based in Allensworth. The Manager will report to the Allensworth Progressive Association. The responsibilities for this position will include the following:  

 

Farm  

  • Research and establish farm plan which includes crops, livestock, and composting programs  

  • Making farm purchases  

  • Support compost operations as needed 

  • Maintain farm facilities, irrigation system, fences, and farm machinery 

  • Analyzing existing operations, crops, livestock, staff, and financial documents and recommending improvements in line with TAC Farm’s mission. 

  • Engage farmer training program as required 

  • Ensuring all staff and visitors adhere to safety and health regulations 

 

Financial Management 

  • Formulate farm budget  

  • Hiring employees 

  • Managing hiring of contractors  

  • In charge of making farm related purchases   

  • Planning and preparing financial reports, monthly financial and production reporting to TAC Farm management 

 

Marketing  

  • Establishing marketing evaluation, client relationships  

  • Working with Allensworth’s farm stand  

  • Building professional networks and maintaining professional development education    

  • Engaging with Allensworth community and being available to answer community questions 

   

Farm Manager Mandatory Requirements 

  • B.S. Agriculture business management, Plant Science or Agriculture Education related degree (able to substitute with years of experience) 

  • Strong knowledge of agriculture equipment, maintenance, and repair   

  • Knowledge of food safety procedures  

  • A Servant Leader with the capacity to restore a farming community 

  • Excellent communication skills with high empathy to connect with various audiences from diverse backgrounds 

  • Desire to produce food of the highest nutrional and ecological quality with a growing mindset   

  • Authorized to work in the US 

  • Valid driver's license  

  • Spanish speaking 

 

In addition, the ideal candidate will also have: 

  • Experience with building a new project from the ground up 

  • Comfort with calling, emailing, and speaking to a wide range of partners 

  • Experience with military veterans or familiarity with veteran programs 

  • An ability and willingness to be flexible with tasks assigned 

  • Moderate computer skill, especially with Microsoft Office suite, Gmail, and social media 

  • A willingness to work odd hours and weekends as necessary 

 

Wages: 

This is a full-time exempt position. The annual salary depends on experience and benefits include vacation, health insurance, and a 401(k).
